So there seems to be a giant Les Mis Fandom Artists collab going around, which is amazing and awesome and wow, BEST FANDOM EVER, right? And I was sitting here going, man, I wish I could draw so I could participate, and then I thought, wait.

WAIT.

Why couldn’t the writers of fandom do a united…

I’d certainly be happy to try, if others wanted to. Maybe it would make me better at this whole Tumblr thing…

Many people in the fandom seem to make Courfeyrac consistently bisexual or similar. In Amis pairings, it’s usually him or Enjolras who get paired up with another Ami. Marius/Courfeyrac or Combeferre/Courfeyrac or Enjolras/Courfeyrac are pretty popular, especially the former.

It amuses me because…

Canonically, yes, he’s probably pretty straight. He’s also one of the Amis who’s the most physical, though, so far as touching other people go, and in a more open society I could easily see him being at least bi-curious. I wouldn’t ever complain about people writing more bi/pansexual characters, though, because yay bi representation with a cool character. (I’m also someone who likes to screw with the Amis sexuality at times, though, and sometimes disassociate it from personality because that’s how it is in Real Life.)

It is kind of funny that fandom’s very convinced Courfeyrac is all about sex when he’s the one talking politics in the corner with his asexual chief and education-obsessed guide while the others chat about mistresses and plays and non-politics stuff… Really, being very loving and physical doesn’t make one all about sex. (Liking to rant about politics more than about mistresses also doesn’t negate his having a good sex drive, but nuances, fandom, you can find them!)

Well, I’m mostly back. Thesis due in five days, so I probably won’t be meta’ing an epic meta or Brick!clubbing quite yet, but I won’t be completely MIA. And, to make up for it, I ficced!

This is absolutely adorable. I have a very soft spot for traumatized-doctor Joly fic (…it’s a professional sympathy thing), and this was beautiful. I love Bossuet’s focus on Joly smiling, his sorrow when it isn’t happening and his absolute joy when he manages to make it happen. I love Bossuet and Musichetta taking care of Joly, cleaning him up after what happened. And I adore your Bahorel and Jehan playing off each other, Jehan begging Bahorel to dance to with him. That entire exchange just made me grin. Thanks for writing and sharing!

Pleeeeeeaaaase please please update Dreamers in the Shadows soon! I love it so much!

I’ll be posting the next chapter of “Dreamers” on Wednesday. I apologize for the delay; some real-life trauma happened, which I’ll explain briefly later, and of course it happened at two chapters which are rather important to the plot (one emotionally, one plot-wise). Again, I’m really, really sorry for the delay, but it should be back on normal posting schedule again after this.

Because there is some tension in the fandom and myself and tumblr user PilferingApples have instigated a hug party.

We should all draw hugs.

They fix everything.

I don’t know if I chose the right or the wrong time to try my toes in fandom again—tension scares me into hiding, but hug party! I firmly approve of all hugging. This is lovely. Combeferre’s little smile is so charming, and I love the quietness to Courfeyrac’s expression, at odds with the intensity of the rest of the hug.

Just wanted to say agreed to pretty much all this. Canonical stories are awesome fun. In some fandoms all I want to write are canon stories—before, after, during, between events (hello, toku fandom). In other fandoms, and this is very much Les Mis for me, the canon feels fairly complete. Sure, there are gaps in which events can occur, and good writers have done some amazing things with them. But for the most part the highlights of the characters lives have been hit. But an AU or a reincarnation plot means that you can do anything, hit any emotional high points that you want, and it can be lots of fun to try to figure out what the core of a character is, what has to stay the same, what would change with the setting. (It doesn’t help that all my favorite characters in Les Mis are very dead at the end, with their emotional character arcs fairly well fulfilled…) Then again, maybe I’m just being overly defensive of AUs because I like to write them.

I just wanted to say that I really liked this story and this AU setting. Sci-fi dystopia is a genre that I love, and the idea of a society where touch isn’t allowed is beautifully chilling and well-drawn here. I love the way you have Feuilly caring about all the children—it’s very Feuilly, seeing himself in every lost child, wanting to adopt the world as his family and save them all. And Jehan, not able to find a word that properly encompasses the horror that is their world and the things they have to see, giving voice to Feuilly’s wish. Really, really nice work.

(Also, having sad hugging in this world is perfect, as Feuilly points out, because at least sad hugging means that a transfer of comfort is being given. It would be much, much worse to not have hugging. Hugs for all!)

I wish I could be there! Unfortunately I’m in the middle of the country, and fairly well stuck there right now. I’ve had good luck running into toku people at the anime cons I’ve gone to here, though. Granted, just a handful at each con, but we do exist!

I think I finally figured out how to add an ask box to this thing! (My siblings weep at my inability to use technology.)

In honor of that, and to try to get myself back into the writing habit following silly real life getting in the way, I’d like to offer to write ficlets for people. Just throw me a character’s name or a pairing and a brief prompt, and I’ll attempt to write 500-1000 words for you. Hopefully this will get me back in the mood to work on my plot-heavy, ridiculously long things. For Kamen Rider I can write Heisei Riders and Black; for sentai I can write Shinkenger and Gokaiger. I’d also happily attempt some Les Mis prompts, if anyone were interested.

(Jemmir, if you’re still in the mood for it, I do have an outline sketched for a Gokaiger fic with Marvelous/Joe/Ahim… it just got rather longer and more involved than I expected. If you’d like something else now given how long it’s been, no problem!)

This story is beautiful. You capture the different ways in which people grieve very well. I especially like the parallels between Grantaire and Combeferre. They’re the two who were closest to Enjolras, and they’re both very broken, but they broke in opposite ways. Combeferre broke quiet, broke inward, with guilt and remorse; Grantaire breaks loudly, breaks outward, with open, aching sorrow that others have to help him mask for dignity’s sake. It’s heartbreaking to have Enjolras have to watch them grieve while being helpless to do anything about it. The last four lines of this section were just about perfect, too—no matter how great the personal sorrow and tragedy, France is still at the forefront of their thoughts. It’s how Combeferre will stay true to Enjolras’ spirit. I’ll be very interested to see where things go from here!
